My Horses Ask any of my friends and family, the one thing used to decribe me is "horse crazy"! I took delivery of my dream horse, an Arab/Trakehner filly from a long line of dressage champions, on February 28th. She was bred at Windy Hill Sporthorses in Nebraska. Just as I suspected, she is everything and more, 3 fantastic gaits, and cute as can be! Her website is Bellatrix Beshert.
This mare is Mysterious Gift, a 16.1 hand thoroughbred from racing stock that I owned since she was only 5 weeks old and orphaned. I had owned her dam, too, Roving Star, but lost her from a bad pasture accident. I raised and broke her myself, and showed successfully up to first level in dressage. She jumped a bit too, and was the best horse in the round pen. Using John Lyons techniques while free lunging, she knew walk, trot, canter, jump, change direction, speed up, slow down, and come to me. Mystery is now on retirement at Proud Spirit Horse Sanctuary in Arkansas. This is a rare picture from about 1993, Roving Star, with me up, scratching Mystery's ear when she was only about a month old. Roving passed about a week later. This adorable blanket appalossa was actually my best friend's horse, but she let me ride him all the time. He was just an aged 15.3 hand plain horse, but the best, most honest horse to a jump I have ever ridden. I jumped 4 foot on Kim's MarkIV when I was only 16. That remains the highest I have ever jumped, as I am more suited to dressage. This is Merri Vain, a 16.3 hand Appendix mare that was just so gorgeous, I bought her right out of a stall at her breeder's. I became a better rider on this mare, she was calm, but sensitive, and was very good as long as you rode well and with feeling. We also showed at the Winter Equestrian Festival in 2001, just a couple classes, but I couldn't have been happier with her attitude. I didn't even have to lunge her, she was good and calm, and dealt much better with the pressure than me! I sold Merri to a friend of mine in order to finish college, I miss her, but she has a good home.
